Weather Precautions for Pipes

As temperatures begin to drop starting Sunday night through Wednesday, it's essential to take precautions to prevent frozen or burst pipes during inclement weather. Here are some practical steps to help winterize your home's plumbing:

  • Keep the Heat On: Maintain a consistent temperature inside your home, even if you're away. Set your thermostat to at least 55°F to keep pipes from freezing.

  • Let Faucets Drip: During very cold nights, allow a slow drip from faucets, from both the cold and hot lines. Moving water is less likely to freeze.

  • Open Cabinet Doors: If you have sinks on exterior walls, open cabinet doors under the sinks to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes.

  • Disconnect Outdoor Hoses: Drain and store garden hoses, and turn off the water supply to outdoor faucets. Consider installing insulated covers for extra protection.

  • Know Your Shut-Off Valve: Locate your home's main water shut-off valve and make sure it’s functioning correctly. This can minimize damage if a pipe does burst. Please reference your Paros Home’s Maintenance Guide.

Taking these steps now can help prevent the inconvience of freezing pipes. As always if you have any questions or concerns please reach out.
